Ministering to women who have experienced trauma, battled addiction, and found themselves without hope has done more for me than I feel I have ever done for any of them. My eyes have been opened, the playing field has been leveled, and witnessing the power of grace and seeing hope restored has lit a fire in me that spurs me to desire more.

I refer to myself as a Recovering Pharisee!  While I may have been a model ‘church lady’, my love for others was sorely lacking.  Engaging in this ministry has opened my eyes to my own shortcomings – moving judgment to compassion, and self-righteousness to an acute awareness of my own sin.

While some may have struggled with sins of commission – many of which were punishable by incarceration, I have found that my struggles have been with sins of omission – many of which are actually very socially acceptable.  I mistakenly placed myself in a position of superiority and failed miserably at sharing the love of Christ.

As I have endeavored to share Christ with these women, I have had to learn how to share my faith, how to defend my faith, how to give grace…and unconditional love.  This has grown my faith in ways my religious complacency never could have.  And I have been blessed to see God work in ways I never have before.  He just becomes greater, and I become less!  He is an active and mighty God, and I am honored to serve him in whatever way he calls me.

What is your favorite bible verse?

“Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”  John 14:21

Any interesting facts about you?

I was a Wildlife & Fisheries major and thought I would be riding my horse and trapping bears or something in the mountains!  I became a scientist instead, and God has used that background to give me some validity as I share the gospel with evidence.

What is your favorite coffee?

My favorite is probably the seasonal white chocolate mocha they make at Coffea.  But because I drink so much of it and I don’t need all those calories, my standard is a small black coffee - dark roast, no cream!
